Get Your Color On! Turquoise & Aqua
The latest post of Get Your Color On! is inspired by summer: the bright, clear skies, relaxing trips to the beach, and refreshing dips in the pool. Continue reading for my tips on using turquoise and aqua in your home, other bloggers' decor projects & tutorials, and my decor picks.
Turquoise and aqua are complex and attention-grabbing colors, able to play various roles in decor. The blue aspect of these colors leave a space feeling refreshed and relaxed. Many of us tend to associate these shades with the ocean, further adding to the feeling of tranquility. This makes them a perfect choice for bathrooms and bedrooms.
The green side of turquoise and aqua gives a feeling of renewal, freshness, and uplifting. They have the ability to instill cheer and happiness into a space. These shades are also said to be a great choice for creative spaces and offices as they enhance creativity and expression.
If these are colors you enjoy but aren’t too sure about going all out with them in your space, start out slow with accessories:
This dip-dyed planter is a perfect way to start out slow with this bold color. Find out how Gemma from The Sweetest Digs made over this terra cotta planter with a combo of turquoise and gold. I especially like that her project is budget-friendly and simple.
Karla from Oh So Very Pretty shows you how to create your own dazzling, turquoise-tinted Mason jars. These jars are very popular right now, so her awesome tutorial can help you save some money—especially if you score some jars at a yard sale or thrift store. I plan on making these very soon!
Since turquoise is such a strong hue, it’s easy to achieve its transforming effects with a few pieces. Aimee from It’s Overflowing provides a great example of this with her bedroom makeover. The turquoise accessories she chose provide just the right amount of color and contrast to the black and white color scheme.
If you’re feeling these colors and want to use a slightly larger dose of them, go with larger pieces like these:
Tonia from The Gunny Sack made over these adirondack chairs with a vibrant turquoise that’s perfect for the outdoors. I envision long, relaxing evenings spent in these chairs and the lovely set-up she created!
Check out this sea-glass inspired side table makeover by Danielle from Silver Pennies. Painting this piece in aqua was a great idea, as the color complements its circular shape. I love the mermaid on top, too!
I can’t think of a better way to welcome people into your home than an entrance decorated in aqua. Painting a small space with this color is less risky because if you change your mind later, it’s an easy do-over.
If you’re hankering for turquoise in a larger space but don’t want it to feel overwhelming, choose a softer, muted shade. Because this living room was painted with a less saturated version, it allows more flexibility with using richly-colored accessories.
Ready for full-on color commitment? Go for a monochromatic room, like this kitchen with its matching turquoise walls, countertop, and cabinets.
This bathroom is an example of how turquoise can feel rich and decadent. You’ve really gotta love the color to have it on your ceiling and walls. Taking a bath in this space has to feel like you’re swimming in the clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean. Heavenly.
Turquoise and aqua are colors that pair well with any shade. This chic nursery that Audrey Oh So Lovely decorated is a wonderful example of how well pink complements turquoise. Her use of a softer version of this blue is perfect with the bright pink—the room is chic, not candy-coated.
Conversely, this nook paired a strong shade of turquoise with soft shades of yellow. These colors are beautiful together as they are both evoke cheer and happiness.
Decorating a room with an analogous (neighbors on the color wheel) color scheme is guaranteed to look great. This bedroom decorated with green and varying shades of turquoise looks effortless.

I LOVE the color aqua! I painted my kitchen island “agave blue” to stand out against the dark cabinets and floors. I absolutely love it! Everyone loves it when they see it, but they are too scared to do it in their own kitchens 😦
Ooh, that sounds divine! It’s my fave color! It does seem to be one of those colors that is a risky choice. Good for you and thanks for commenting!
Thank you so much for featuring my seaside table! So kind of you! x Aqua is such a happy color.
You’re welcome—and thank you for sharing your creative talents! I appreciate your stopping over to leave a comment!
My Favorite color! pinning to my Aqua page…stopped by from 504 main. Have an aqualicious day!
Mine too! Thanks for stopping over and you also have a great week!
This is my absolute favorite color to decorate with! I probably go overboard w/ it in my home and craft projects but it is just such a yummy hue!
I LOVE aqua! It’s been my go-to color for several years now, and I just change up the other colors in my palette. I painted my living room a cool aqua that changes with the light–a little more blue in the morning and a little more green at night. I LOVE how complex it is and yet fresh and inviting!
Yes–that complexity of the color is part of what I love! That sounds like a fabulous room to be in. Thanks for commenting!
I also have to suggest that you could dive into Turquoise fully and paint a Hexagon patterned wall with it ( but I’m biased 😉 )
Ah yes, I remember your checking out your wall—swoon! I too am biased so it was very easy to write this post. Thanks for stopping through!
Turquoise and Aqua sure catch my attention. Love all the ideas from other bloggers of ways to use them in my home.
Thanks! I appreciate your stopping through to comment!
Turquoise became my new favorite color this spring! I have been worrying lately how to keep using it into the winter months and some of your photos have given me some good ideas, thanks!
Jenna
Glad I could help! I love turquoise in Christmas decor. I think you could truly use it year-round. Thanks for commenting!
Turquoise is my favourite colour! I’ve used it in decorating, I’ve used it in party planning, it was even one of the main colours in my wedding (along with red!). Recently, a friend of mine asked me to design a mood board for her, incorporating some turquoise into the mix… here’s what I came up with: http://superflashcreative.wordpress.com/2013/06/18/inspiration-board-dark-beachy-living-room/
Visiting you from Sumo’s Sweet Stuff linkup 🙂
Cheers,
Katie
What a great color choice for parties! It can be both sophisticated & festive. I will be sure to check out your board. Thanks for commenting!

I am convinced…I need more turquoise and aqua in my life!
I think we can always benefit from more turquoise, but I am a bit biased since it’s my fave color. Thanks for commenting & hosting your party each week!
These are my favorite colors! I especially love the outdoors chairs and when this color is used on walls.
Thanks for commenting! I like anything in turquoise, but the bigger the better!
