Get Your Color On! Red
Fall signifies our last chance to enjoy nature's warmth before it starts fading into the neutrals of winter... so I chose the mighty color red for this month's Get Your Color On!.
Continue reading to learn my tips for decorating with varying levels of red, more of my decor picks in this classic color, and how other bloggers have incorporated red into their homes.
Red is one of those colors that is guaranteed a response, no matter what variation or shade. It’s a color you can’t help but notice: red tells us to stop, it tells us when we’ve broken skin, and it radiates heat. Red ignites passion. Red is love. Red is power.
Because red possesses such strength, you may be hesitant in decorating with it. Check out these options for using it in smaller doses with accessories:

Adding a bouquet of red flowers is a natural way to add elegance and a pop of color to a room. Check out this unique floral arrangement made with leather belts and carnations:
This hallway was accented by red wall frames hung in various sizes. It’s a great way to introduce a decent amount of red into your space without it feeling overwhelming.
Another way you can add red to your walls without paint is through some DIY wall art. Check out the wall mirrors that Katie from Little Things Bring Smiles crafted. Her mirrors really add some pizzazz to her dining area. Can you guess what they’re made of?
Speaking of spiffy repurposing projects, Jill from Create.Craft.Love shows you how she made this punchy red side table with a plant stand and pizza tin. I love how budget-friendly her table was and the happy energy it gives her space!
If you dig red and want to go further than accessories, consider these large-scale items:
Amy from The Blissful Bee made over this lovely wicker chair with a red that ties in perfectly with the other touches of red in the space. What a great vintage find!
Decorating with red in a kitchen is very fitting: think of all the awesome foods that feature red. This kitchen features a red subway tile backsplash that adds rich detail to the room.
Progressing further down the spectrum of decorating with red, you can opt to paint a portion of a wall or an entire accent. This bedroom features a wall cutout that helps balance the low headboard and establish the focal point in the room.
If you’re absolutely passionate about red, consider doing it large in a small space. Sarah from The Yellow Cape Cod made over her bathroom with a red that makes this room feel so warm. She wisely kept the accessories and decor simple, which allow this striking hue to take the stage.
Melissa from Number 2 Pencil recently made over her son’s bedroom with this fabulous combo of red, navy, and yellow. This primary color scheme is a sure-fire way to make a room look sharp and is perfect for a boy’s room.
While red and gray are not my favorite colors in the world of sports (GO BLUE!), I have to admit, they do look stunning together. The neutrality of this gray dining room pairs wonderfully with the saturation of the red chairs and dinnerware. This color palette is perfect for those who are gun-shy on using a lot of red in their home.
Decorating with red and purple may seem like an odd match, but because they’re neighbors on the color wheel (analogous colors), they complement each other very well.
