Living Room & Dining Room Makeover Moodboard
Dear Dining Room,
I neglected you for so long. I don't know how you put up with me ignoring you all this time, when all you wanted was a little love. Well, I'm finally ready to give myself to you. We can do this, together, finally.
It's true, I have a deep relationship with my home. In human relationships, you may come to a turning point. Things get stale or are neglected, which is how I started feeling with my living room and dining room. So I vowed to do a makeover. Continue reading to check out more of my moodboard & my plan for these rooms.
In my apartment, I don’t actually have a dining room— but I do have a long living room. The kitchen is somewhat open to the living room with a wall pass-through, making it easy to designate a dining area right next to it. Here’s the before, from when I first moved in:
In all my zeal for making over my other rooms, I neglected this dining area. Sure, I have a table and chairs here, but I rarely eat meals at it. Eating dinner at the coffee table is so 1998. I vowed to give my dining area the attention it deserved, once and for all.
While planning how to decorate this space, I also found the need to address my living room. The energy in the room just didn’t fit anymore for me, so I planned a change here as well: comfy, relaxing, soft, and down-to-earth. And as always, unique.
The biggest part of the living room makeover is the color scheme. One of the reasons I used aqua paint on the walls is because I could change the palette easily with any other secondary color. With this change, the cobalt and navy are leaving while more gray, teal and golden yellow are coming in.
There will also be some slight changes to the decor style. I will still use mid-century modern pieces, but will reference Scandinavian style and a little rustic style for earthiness.
Here’s the full moodboard for both spaces:
Some of these are things I already have, like #9, 12, and 14. The rest is just for inspiration, as I will be creating DIY versions like usual.
What do you think? Have you ever had to use part of your living room as a dining room? Do you use your dining room frequently?

I don’t really use my dining room… Well, its not really a designated room its part of the kitchen, but still. I plan on using it once my little guy gets a little bit older. I love your color scheme for this space! Thank you for sharing. 🙂

Glad someone else can relate. Thanks for popping over and commenting!
Wooo! I love the colors you have chosen, we just moved into our house in June and we literally just plopped our furniture in there and…. yup, that was about it. It’s time for some paint and design. I’m like you though, I don’t have a set style, so I have wandering eyes.
It’s actually easier in a way to not have a set style. Good luck with your decorating and thanks for taking the time to comment!
I love the colors and theme you’ve chosen for your dining room! I can’t wait to see the finished project! Pinning this to the Frugal Crafty Home Blog Hop link ups board right now!
Thanks! I appreciate the comment!
